Friday- April 16th

PRSSA Regional Event Social: "PRty Forward"

  • Co-hosted by Duquesne University and Point Park University PRSSA
    • 7-9pm at Lawrence Hall, Point Park University
    • Open to high school, college students, and PR professionals (registration required)
    • "PRty Forward" is all about celebrating where we are today, and where we are going tomorrow.  Dress to impress in your semi-formal attire and prepare to mingle among PRSSA's finest.

Kickoff Event – BotsIQ (The Smart Sport)

  • BotsIQ
    • At Century III Mall in West Mifflin
    • Robots Fighting.  Yes.  It's as cool as it sounds.... Sparks will fly as the top 16 teams from Southwestern PA compete with their 15-pound robots. Come early for a front row seat to see student-built robots, backed by committed educators and manufacturers.

PRSSA Regional Event: “From Steel to Shine: PR Careers for Your Future”

  • Co-hosted by Duquesne University and Point Park University PRSSA
    • 8:45am-4:40pm Conference in Power Center Ballroom, Duquesne University  
    • 4:40-6:40pm PR Internship & Career Fair with exhibitors from leading PR firms and organizations

Tuesday- April 20th

Internship Presentation

  • Jackson & Jackson Tax Attorneys/ Greater Pittsburgh Black Business Directory
    • 11am at the Bridge of Pittsburgh
    • A presentation regarding internship opportunities that will be available at their local site downtown Pittsburgh. This exciting presentation will allow youth an opportunity to gain experience in their field, determine if they have an interest in a particular field in addition to creating a network of contacts.

Wednesday- April 21st

JA in a Day

  • Junior Achievement
    • At St. Agnes School, West Mifflin
    • JA in a Day places volunteers in classrooms to teach students principles of work readiness, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship. Volunteers will teach the JA program (5-6 lessons) of one grade level in a single school day at an elementary and/or middle school (grades K-8).

Thursday- April 22nd

10th Annual Student Leadership Conference- Day 1

  • The Future Is Mine
  • The Consortium for Public Education will host its 10th Annual “The Future Is Mine” Student Leadership Conference.  Around 350 students are expected to participate in the Conference, which, among other opportunities, will introduce them to local employers through site visits and engage them in using their leadership and teambuilding skills to prepare presentations with students from outside their own districts. The Conference also provides speakers, workshops and opportunities for students to network with peers from across the region. In addition, student participants and their advisors help lay the groundwork for next year’s TFIM program in their schools.

4th Annual Youth Career Fair

  • YouthLINK, Eastside Neighborhood Employment Center, and YouthWorks, with a generous donation by PA CareerLink
    • 1:00-4:30pm at the Omni William Penn Hotel
    • High school juniors and seniors, freshmen and sophomore college students, and other entry-level workers are encouraged to attend.
    • Youth will have the opportunity to meet hiring employers, post-secondary institutions, and experts from the workforce development sector.  Each youth attendant will receive a Career Fair Bag filled with gifts and have the chance to win door prizes!

All Throughout the Week

Boys and Girls Club

  • Activities throughout the week will take place the Boys and Girls Club locations throughout the region.
  • Boys and Girls Club of Western PA youth ages 5-18 will be participating in Career Launch and Smart Moves activities that focus on career development, decision-making, setting goals and healthy living.
  • The Youth Enterprise Zone entrepreneur group will sell their National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship product line at the Youth Workforce Conference.

Bridge of Pittsburgh

  • The Bridge of Pittsburgh will be hosting activities all throughout the week for their members. Events include the following:
    • All week- 425 Sixth Avenue 20th Floor Pittsburgh, PA 15219
    • Career Readiness - This is offered at the Bridge every Tuesday and Thursday and it is a chance for the youth to meet one on one with someone to help them do their resume, mock interviews, learn about different job opportunities that are available, and other issues as needed.
    • Internship Preparation- We will be conducting registrations here at the Bridge for the Regional Internship Center which offers 250 internships in various industries.
    • Career Day- Highlights of entry level careers and targeted industries with projected salary information.
    • College Fair and SAT Prep- Admissions representatives from around the Pittsburgh area will be present to give students who are interested in college information and answer questions.
