Educational Institutions

  • Butler County Community College is dedicated to providing affordable and accessible education, training, and cultural enrichment opportunities responsive to the needs of the community. The College is committed to fostering a supportive environment that values integrity, diversity, and excellence.

  • Carlow University, the first Catholic, women-centered, liberal arts university in Pennsylvania, prepares students, primarily women, for competent leadership and compassionate service in personal and professional life. With an enrollment currently under 2,200, and a student-faculty ratio of 12-1, students enjoy small classes and individual instruction. The student population is culturally diverse consisting of more than 20 percent African American students, traditional and nontraditional, and more than half are first generation. Upon graduation, 73 percent of graduating seniors gain full-time employment within six months.

  • Carnegie Mellon University is a global research university of more than 10,000 students, 70,000 alumni, and 4,000 faculty and staff. Recognized for its world-class arts and technology programs, collaboration across disciplines and innovative leadership in education, Carnegie Mellon is consistently a top-ranked university.

  • Community College of Allegheny County is about students learning from expert faculty. It's about a full campus life that includes athletics, social organizations, Phi Theta Kappa honor society and more.  It's about choice—more than 170 programs that lead to great careers and great four-year colleges.

  • Community College of Beaver County offers a variety of programs and services that respond to the educational needs of our students and our community. Expand your horizons through associate degrees designed to meet the requirements for the first two years of a bachelor's degree or occupational programs that train those ready to enter the working world after graduation.

  • Duquesne University is a private Catholic university founded by members of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit. Duquesne has over 10,000 graduate and undergraduate students within a self-contained 48 acre hilltop campus. The school maintains associate campuses in Harrisburg and Rome and encompasses ten schools of study.

  • Educators and Employers Engaged for Excellence (E4)-participating school districts help prepare young people with quality-workplace experiences to enhance their education and help them discover the opportunities that exist in southwestern Pennsylvania. This initiative benefits many as it:
    • Helps educators achieve curriculum requirements and enrich their lessons;
    • Gives youth concrete educational experiences;
    • Raises the profile of potential employers in the region; and
    • Gives employers visibility and effectively positions them to the up and coming workforce.

  • Pittsburgh Job Corps Center offers academic remediation and vocational training for low-income young adults in a residential setting. The facility, operated by ResCare Inc. in conjunction with the AFL-CIO Appalachian Council and the International Union of Operating Engineers, currently serves approximately 800 young men and women, ages 16-24.

  • Pittsburgh Public Schools is the largest of 43 school districts in Allegheny County and second largest in Pennsylvania. The District serves approximately 28,000 students in Kindergarten through Grade 12 in 65 schools. In addition, Early Childhood programs serve three- and four-year-olds in classrooms across the city.

  • University of Pittsburgh is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in the United States and among the nation's most distinguished comprehensive universities, with a wide variety of high-quality programs in both the arts and sciences and professional fields.

  • Westmoreland County Community College is a learning-centered college focused on student success, a catalyst for economic growth, a leader in workforce development, and a hub for cultural and artistic experiences.

Intermediary Organizations

  • Pennsylvania Department of Education, Pennsylvania Career Education & Work Standards provides resources, references, crosswalks and other tools to assist elementary, middle and high schools teachers and administrators in implementing the Pennsylvania (PA) Career Education and Work Standards.

  • Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU) provides specialized educational services to Allegheny County's 42 suburban school districts and 5 vocational/technical schools.

    The AIU employs more than 2,000 employees at 721 sites and operates 11 family centers and 3 schools for exceptional children. With more than 130 programs for infants, young children, students, and adults, the AIU receives funding through federal, state, county, and private grants.

  • America's Promise Alliance is a cross-sector partnership of more than 300 corporations, nonprofits, faith-based organizations and advocacy groups that are passionate about improving lives and changing outcomes for children.

  • Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania seeks to inform the broader public, including prospective students and their families, about the colleges and universities that make up its membership. 

  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for youth, with particular emphasis on members who live in urban communities of highly diverse cultures. The primary mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania is to promote health, social, educational, vocational and character development for boys and girls ages 6 through 18, by self-esteem, values, and skills.

  • Educators and Employers Engaged for Excellence (E4) seeks to improve career education by connecting employers and educators and youth. E4 provides a growing number of young people with quality-workplace experiences to enhance their education and help them discover the opportunities that exist in southwestern Pennsylvania.

  • Health Careers Futures, a supporting organization of the Jewish Healthcare Foundation, was created in 2002 in order to identify, develop and share best practices in health workforce recruitment, development and retention.

  • City of Pittsburgh, Mayor's Youth Council serves as a liaison between the City of Pittsburgh youth and the Youth Commission on issues affecting youth and to encourage the positive growth and development of youth by involving them in social, cultural, recreational and other drug and alcohol free activities.

  • Pittsburgh Promise is a visionary scholarship program to help students graduating from the Pittsburgh Public Schools to pursue further education after high school, and to enhance the growth, stability, and economic development of the Pittsburgh Region.

  • Pittsburgh Regional Compact is a network of employers, schools and community organizations committed to building career education partnerships in southwestern Pennsylvania. The Compact facilitates partnerships among members by establishing lines of communication between businesses and schools, and engaging community organizations. Through relevant career education, local employers build a future pipeline of qualified employees, and the region's students gain valuable career awareness and preparation.

  • YouthWorks provides a coordinated approach to youth initiatives in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. The organization builds a community solution to help young people whose potential might be overlooked to pursue employment and career development opportunities.
