New Leadership
for the Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board
Pittsburgh PA (December 22,
2006). Tommy Johnson, Director, Government Affairs,
CONSOL Energy, has been elected President of the
Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board (TRWIB).
He is replacing Gregory Greenleaf, President of
the Greenleaf Group, LLC who will continue to
serve on the TRWIB as a member and help ensure
continuity during the transition.
Tommy is an experienced
business person who understands the challenges
associated with finding and keeping qualified
workers, says Ron Painter, Chief Executive
Officer of the TRWIB. He also is well versed in
navigating the governmental process, the workforce
investment system, and economic and community
development. A TRWIB board member since
2004, Tommy has spent a lot of time with the non-profit
community and as an important interface with the
private sector. This past year, Tommy played an
important role in the TRWIBs study that
focused on issues related to our regions
aging workforce, Managing the Changing Workforce
in Southwestern Pennsylvania, by serving as a
subject matter expert in the energy industry and
by sharing intelligence about some of the ways
that CONSOL Energy has approached the aging
issue.
Tommy is a graduate of the
University of Pittsburgh where he earned his bachelors
degree in communications and rhetoric; he is currently
working on a masters degree in public administration
at the University of PittsburghGraduate School
of Public and International Affairs. He recently
graduated from the FBIs Citizens Academy
in Pittsburgh and serves on other boards including
those for Junior Achievement of Southwestern Pennsylvania
and Wireless Neighborhoods.
The Three Rivers Workforce
Investment Board is an organization whose focus
is helping the region through strategic workforce
planning and by helping to align employer needs
with jobseeker skills. The TRWIB was established
along with about 500 other Workforce Investment
Boards across the country by federal legislation
in 1998. As a joint initiative of the city of
Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, TRWIB Board members
are appointed by the Mayor and County Chief Executive
and represent the private and public sectors.
Board members represent a diverse group of stakeholders
including employers, training providers, labor
unions, government agencies, and community-based
organizations; they are unified by a shared concern
about the quality of the workforce and the availability
of good jobs in this region. For more information,
please visit the TRWIB online at www.trwib.org.
