Summer youth employment down dramatically
TRWIB releases Youth Employment Report
Several thousand of the Allegheny County's youth population between the age of 14 and 24 are neither employed nor in school.
However, all young people at this stage of their life should be intensively connected with educational or work opportunities to develop knowledge and skills that will ensure their self-sufficiency and prosperity.
Youth actively engaged in career oriented learning and exploration gain significant advantage in developing the critical 21st Century Skills that are key to a success in any profession. The disconnected youth, however, develop dangerous gaps in basic education and work-readiness that often lead to poor employment prospects and life in poverty.
The report brief found here outlines basic facts on the Pittsburgh area's youth employment and education trends to strengthen the case for employer engagement in the development of the region's future workforce.
