How did you get your first job?
Recognizing that building a diverse and skilled workforce pipeline is critical to the future of our economy, Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board is committed to educating youth on the region’s corporate landscape and providing opportunities for industry integration and development of key 21st century work-readiness skills.
WorkReady® Pittsburgh provides deserving youth in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County with six-week, paid internships at top corporations in the region. Youth spend 16 hours per week in a corporate environment and attend a 4-hour professional development seminar each Friday. The program provides youth with exposure to the corporate world and career opportunities and emphasizes the connection between school and economic success, which is critical in setting youth on the path to a successful future.
Based on the successful WorkReady Philadelphia program model, TRWIB established its internship program WorkReady Pittsburgh in summer 2011, providing corporate internships to 35 participants. The program grew to 37 participants in 2012. In 2013, we will grow the program to include 100 highly qualified, highly motivated and deserving young people.
