Who gave you your first break?
Recognizing that building a diverse and skilled workforce pipeline is critical to the future of our economy, TRWIB is committed to educating youth on the region’s corporate landscape and providing opportunities for industry integration and development of key 21st century work-readiness skills.
WorkReady® Pittsburgh provides deserving youth in Allegheny County with six-week, paid internships at top corporations in the city. Youth spend 16 hours per week in a corporate placement and attend a 4-hour professional development seminar each Friday. The program provides youth with exposure to the corporate world and career opportunities and emphasizes the connection between school and economic success, which is critical in setting youth on the path to a successful future.
Based on the successful WorkReady Philadelphia program model, TRWIB established WorkReady Pittsburgh in summer 2011, providing corporate internships to 36 participants. After an inaugural summer filled with positive youth experiences and strong corporate involvement, we are rapidly scaling-up the program, aiming to serve 100 youth in summer 2012!
